The story

Why Sin Booze exists

Hola, I'm Aldo Covarrubias, founder of Sin Booze. I'm from Mexico City, I live in San Diego, and I run every part of this business myself, from the menu to the last guest at the bar.

The business followed the life

I spent years in tech. Then, right as I moved to San Diego, it all hit at once: I got laid off, my whole team gone in one day, and I tore my Achilles tendon.

Out of work and off my feet, I took an honest look at my drinking. At the rate I was going, I was going to lose the people around me, and my money along with them. With no paycheck coming in, there wasn't much money left to spend on it anyway. I'd already quit smoking cigarettes, so I knew I could quit something hard. I quit alcohol for good.

Once I stopped drinking, I started noticing something at every party, wedding, and celebration I went to: there was almost nothing for people who don't drink. Maybe a soda. Maybe a sad glass of juice. Nobody was thinking about us.

Sin Booze started as a simple idea: bring real non-alcoholic drinks to celebrations, so the people who aren't drinking feel included and celebrated too. It kept growing into what it is today, a craft mocktail bar for social gatherings across San Diego.

I didn't research a trend and build a business around it. The business followed my life.

Sabores de casa

The menu is personal. Aguas frescas, horchata, jamaica: these are the flavors I grew up with in Mexico City, not a theme I picked off a mood board.

I reimagine them as craft mocktails, and the menu keeps rotating and evolving. Every event gets drinks that taste like home to me, made for your guests.

How we host

The drinks matter, but how your guests feel matters more. Every person who walks up to the bar gets something crafted and intentional in their hand, plus a real hello.

I've spent my whole career taking care of people: Customer Success and partnerships in tech, including BigCommerce, then retail, and now sales in renewable energy. That shows up at every event. I read the room and I make sure nobody feels like an afterthought.
